A new trailer for WWE 2K23 has shown off more gameplay for this year’s entry in the sports entertainment franchise. Just like last year’s game, WWE 2K22, you can expect plenty of elbow drops, slams, and a chance to knock out influencer Logan Paul. One of the major additions this year is the introduction of WarGames, which doubles up on ring space and encloses the area inside of a massive steel cage.

Originally a signature match type found in WCW, WWE revived the hellish structure several years ago, and it was recently featured in the 2022 Survivor Series main event that saw Roman Reigns and the Bloodline face off against the Brawling Brutes team of Sheamus, Ridge Holland, Butch, Drew McIntyre, and Kevin Owens. For WWE 2K23, this mode will be available in either 3v3 or 4v4 for single-player and multiplayer.

The rest of the footage showed off several WWE superstars in action. John Cena, the cover star of this year’s game, is joined by Royal Rumble winners Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley, while the rest of the roster features a mix of legends and current superstars such as Bianca Belair, The Undertaker, The Miz, Hulk Hogan, and more.

WWE 2K23 is scheduled to launch on March 17 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC. This year’s Showcase Mode features an interesting twist on the formula, as you’ll step into the boots of wrestlers who attempted to take out John Cena throughout his storied career. Other modes include MyGM, MyRise, and enhanced multiplayer through MyFaction.

Last year’s WWE 2K22 saw the series return with some much-needed overhauls after the disastrous launch of WW2 2K20, putting the franchise back on the right track towards the main event.

“It’s a massive step up from 2K20, improving on nearly every aspect of the long-running series,” Richard Wakeling wrote in GameSpot’s WWE 2K22 review. “The in-ring action has been reworked and improved, the variety and quality of its game modes has increased, and there’s been a major decrease in the amount of unrelenting glitches afflicting each and every facet of the game.”
