Xbox Series X|S Storage Cards Are Finally Getting Less Expensive

Seagate has officially and permanently reduced the price of its expansion cards for Xbox Series X|S consoles. According to Seagate’s new pricing, the 512GB expansion card will now cost you $90 (was $140), the 1TB version will retail for $150 (was $220), and the 2TB model has a recommended retail price of $270 (was $400).

This price cut comes at a time when modern video games are becoming increasingly bigger in size, with the recent release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor being a notable example. Respawn’s sequel to Fallen Order takes up over 150GB of space on console and PC, while other games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Red Dead Redemption 2 can easily take up the bulk of the available storage space available.

Seagate’s solution is a simple one, as the expansion card fits into a dedicated slot at the back of an Xbox Series X|S console and functions just like the internal SSD. That means that you’ll still get the lightning-fast loading times in games, Quick Resume functionality, and other benefits from the Xbox Velocity firmware. Just plug it in, and you’re ready to play. While the 512GB expansion card is currently sold out at several retailers, Amazon and Best Buy still have stock of the 1TB and 2TB versions at their new prices.

At the same time, Seagate has some potential competition on the way from Western Digital, as details on that company’s expansion card recently leaked. The WD Black C50 Expansion Card will cost $180 for a 1TB model, but Seagate’s permanent price drop undercuts its rival by a significant amount.
