MLB The Show 23 will introduce a pivotal part of baseball’s long history to the series, as Sony San Diego and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum have announced a partnership to bring the Negro Leagues to the game.

The Negro Leagues will be represented in a brand-new game mode, Storylines, which will see players choose a single player from Negro Leagues history, and follow that player’s story during their playing career. Storylines will play out through both gameplay moments highlighting important moments, as well as short video vignettes offering context and backstory.

Eight players will make up the first season of The Negro Leagues content, with more to follow throughout the year. The names making up that list of eight are as follows:

  • Martin Dihigo
  • John Donaldson
  • Andrew “Rube” Foster
  • John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil
  • Leroy “Satchel” Paige
  • Jackie Robinson
  • Hilton Smith
  • Hank Thompson

Sony San Diego will be hosting a livestream deep dive of the Negro Leagues content on its Twitch and YouTube channels this Thursday February 9, where members of the development team will be joined by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum president Bob Kendrick. In addition, Sony San Diego has pledged to donate one dollar of every Collector’s Edition sale–both Digital Deluxe and The Captain’s Edition–to the museum between now and December 31.

MLB The Show 23 launches March 28 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
