After announcing Jazz Chisholm as the cover star for MLB The Show 23, San Diego Studio has now revealed that MLB legend Derek Jeter will be on the cover of the game’s “Captain” edition. Additionally, the studio announced the first details on the game’s upcoming technical test.

Jeter, who played for the Yankees and retired in 2014 after winning five World Series titles and making the All-Star team 14 times, is featured on the cover in a larger-than-life fashion. San Diego Studio worked with artist Sanford Greene on the cover, which shows the shortstop leaping out of Yankee Stadium and into the night sky. The cover is filled with Easter eggs about Jeter, too.

The Captain Edition costs $100 and comes with a variety of bonuses, including access to the game on March 24, which is four days before the standard edition launches. Available at retailers and via PlayStation Direct, it also comes with an MLB The Show 23 hat, a steelbook case, double daily login rewards for as long as the game is supported, and digital goodies like Show Packs, skins, and 10,000 Stubs, among other things.

A $100 Digital Deluxe edition sold via the PlayStation Store comes with the same four-day early access. It’s a digital game so it doesn’t include the hat, but purchasers get 30,000 Stubs, along with skins, and a variety of other in-game content.

MLB The Show 23’s Captain Edition

Preorders for all versions of MLB The Show 23 start February 6.

Finally, San Diego Studio announced that a technical test for MLB The Show 23 will run February 15-21 across PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. The studio is using the test period to run the game’s servers through their paces and to gather feedback around gameplay. This technical test is free open to everyone.

GameSpot’s MLB The Show 22 review scored the game a 7/10. “This is an excellent sports game, just as MLB The Show 21 was. The problem is that the list of reasons to upgrade is getting smaller and smaller,” Richard Wakeling said.
