Hideo Kojima Chose Mads Mikkelsen Over Keanu Reeves

Hideo Kojima’s star-studded Death Stranding might have some huge names attached, but the master of game-creation recently revealed that things could have ended up with a very differently.

During the Death Stranding panel at San Diego Comic Con, Kojima revealed that he passed over veteran action actor, Keanu Reeves, in favour of Hannibal star, Mads Mikkelsen.

“I originally was recommended Keanu Reeves but I wanted Mads,” said Kojima.

Reeves fans don’t need to despair though, as he’s – of course – starring in CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, which is due to release next spring.

Mikkelsen’s character in Death Stranding is as mysterious as the game itself is right now, but we do know he’ll be starring as the main antagonist of the story, and he’s playing a character named Cliff.

Mikkelsen joins the likes of Norman Reedus, Troy Baker, Guillermo Del Toro and Lindsay Wagner.

Over on the game’s official PlayStation page, the description reads: “After the collapse of civilization, Sam Bridges must journey across a ravaged landscape crawling with otherworldly threats to save mankind from the brink of extinction.

“From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima comes an all-new, genre-defying experience for the PlayStation®4 system.”

Death Stranding, which wants to “connect players” who take on the journey is still pretty confusing despite the numerous trailers, gameplay reveals and descriptions we’ve seen of the game.

We know there’s babies in jars, we know there’s black goop which is bad, and we know that Troy Baker’s rocking some serious My Chemical Romance vibes. As for the rest, well… we’re just trusting Kojima on this one.

Mark your calendars:Death Stranding will launch exclusively on PlayStation 4, November 8, 2019.
