A new season of Call of Duty arrives in Modern Warfare 2 on February 15, and Activision has revealed the roadmap for Season 2. The new multiplayer content includes new weapons, brand-new battle pass, a new Raid episode, and four more maps. Here is everything you need to know about Modern Warfare 2’s big Season 2 update.

New weapons and operator

Season 2 of Modern Warfare 2 will introduce five weapons to the game. The ISO Hemlock assault rifle, KV Broadside shotgun, and Dual Kodachis melee weapon will be included in the free tiers of battle pass, while the crossbow and Tempus Torrent marksman rifle will be available for unlock through in-game challenges. The Ronin operator from Modern Warfare 2019 also returns as the battle pass operator for the season.

Path of the Ronin seasonal event

The launch of Season 2 will include the Path of the Ronin event, which works much like past seasonal events for Call of Duty. The event will include seven challenges to be completed in Warzone 2 or Modern Warfare 2. The challenges are themed around the Seven Virtues of Bushido: Integrity, Respect, Courage, Honor, Compassion, Sincerity, and Loyalty. Each challenge comes with a reward for completion, and completing all seven challenges for the event will unlock Season 2’s Crossbow weapon.

Multiplayer

New Maps

The launch of Season 2 will include two “new” standard multiplayer maps and two more of the large-scale battle maps.

For the standard maps, Dome is returning to multiplayer. Originally from Modern Warfare 3, Dome was previously featured in Vanguard, and is also featured in Warzone 2’s Al Mazrah map. The second standard map is Valderas Museum, which was initially seen in Modern Warfare 2’s beta, but the map was quietly removed from the game. Lastly, Al Mazrah’s Zaya Observatory and Al Malik International locations will serve as the two new maps for Ground War and Invasion modes.

New modes

As previously announced, Call of Duty’s Hardcore multiplayer mode will be returning. Treyarch’s competitive Ranked Play mode is also arriving in Season 2. Ranked Play will follow the Call of Duty League’s CDL-approved rules, restrictions, maps, and modes. Players will be able to rank up in leaderboards and earn unique rewards, including skins for each skill division and a place on a special Top 250 leaderboard.

Call of Duty’s classic Infected mode is arriving with the launch of Season 2. In this mode a player is randomly chosen as “Infected,” and all other players must avoid the infected player. Every player eliminated joins the Infected team until none remain or until time limit is reached.

Modern Warfare 2 is adding some classic party modes for Season 2. Gun Game will arrive at launch, while All-or-Nothing and One in the Chamber are confirmed for later in the season.

New co-op Raid episode

Players can expect a brand-new Raid episode. These three-player episodic Raids continue Modern Warfare 2’s story with a mix of stealth, action, and puzzle-solving objectives. Episode One: Atomgrad launched with Season 1 Reloaded, and Season 2 will introduce the next piece of the story. Activision didn’t provide new story details, but confirmed Price, Farah, and Gaz will be back for episode 2 later in the season, which will likely be the mid-season update.

Weapon tuning and perk balancing were also announced for Season 2 of Modern Warfare 2. Bug fixes and quality-of-life changes are also expected.

Warzone 2 is also set to get the new Ashika Island map and new features. Make sure to check out all the new details for Season 2 of Warzone 2 and DMZ.
