The second season of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 just arrived, but the Season 2 patch notes already teased a bit of what players can expect for the following season, including the return of the fan-favorite Gunfight mode to multiplayer.

According to the Season 2 patch notes, Gunfight will return to Call of Duty in Season 3 of Modern Warfare 2, and new maps will arrive with each season. Vanguard had a 3v3 Gunfight spin-off called Champion Hill, so the last time Call of Duty had a traditional Gunfight mode was Black Ops Cold War.

Gunfight is a 2v2 mode originally introduced in Modern Warfare 2019, which chisels multiplayer down to swift matches on small maps specifically tailored for 2v2 action. Duos face off against each other over multiple chaotic rounds with a 40-second timer for each round. The first duo to win six rounds is the winner of the match.

Other teases made for “Season 3 and beyond” include the return of battle royale’s Plunder respawn mode and a Warzone Ranked playlist. No specific dates were confirmed for Season 3, but given the number of days in the Season 2 battle pass, the third season should begin around April 12. Of course, the original Season 2 start date was delayed to give developers more time to implement changes, so it’s possible future seasons could change as well.

Season 2 released on February 15, and the big update added the Path of the Ronin seasonal event. For Modern Warfare 2, the update added Infected and Hardcore mode. Warzone 2 added the new Ashika Island map to battle royale and DMZ. For more, check out all the major changes for Season 2 content.
